Christopher Thompson is the Director of the Office of Economic Development with the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe (SRMT).
Christopher also worked at the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne (MCA) where he managed the Economic Development Program from 2012-2014. He moved home to Akwesasne in 2012 from London, Ontario where he was working for the Federal Economic Development Agency of Ontario (FEDDEV) as an Economic Development Officer.
Chris has 13 years’ experience with the Canadian Federal Government in the field of economic and community development. Before FEDDEV, he worked for Federal Economic Development of Northern Ontario (FEDNOR), Human Resources and Skills Development Canada (HRSDC) and Service Canada. Aside from being an expert in acronyms, Christopher’s experience centers around First Nations and rural Community development, workforce development, grants and contributions, business services, community economic development and strategic planning. Locally, Christopher is a President of the Akwesasne Area Management Board where he is a supporter of developing the local workforce.
Chris received his Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Trent University in 2003 and has studied Economic Development at the University of Waterloo.
Christopher also sits on numerous Boards related to community development. He is currently the President of the Akwesasne Area Management Board (AAMB), Chair of the Economic Development and Entrepreunership Committee of the United and Southern and Eastern Tribes (USET), the Vice-Chair of the USET Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI), Appointed Representative for the North Country Regional Economic Development Council.
